What will it take for you to cherish time? The loss of an opportunity that could have changed your life severely? Or maybe the loss of a person that you’d regret not taking advantage of time with? Maybe if one day we all cherish time the way we cherish a dollar bill, our lives would be dramatically more fruitful. Alarm clock rings at 6 but we snooze it three or four times till the last unmovable minute. We’ll say ten till 7, at which running around the room, the bathroom, and then the kitchen become the optimal choice. Wipes eyes, finds clean pants, shirt, socks, brush teeth, maybe wash face, where’s my shoes, fill dogs bowl because he’s more important than work, run to the kitchen, hope there’s leftovers for lunch, grabs banana, forgot phone upstairs, Olympic sprint to the car… still late by just one minute. We never truly realize that at 10 till 7 we were just as tired as we would have been at 6. The only thing gained was lost time. But hey what’s 50 minutes in the morning, right? 18,250 minutes of your time you spent in the oblivion in just a year.
What will it take you to cherish time? Be excited to talk to your mom or dad when they call you. Oh you were busy hanging out with some friends for a few hours but couldn’t answer the phone for just 2 minutes? But hey what’s 2 minutes, right? It’s just those two minutes that some other people don’t have and wish they could behold just once more with their parent. Don’t tell me you don’t have two minutes when other people have lost the only 2 minutes they could’ve have. Don’t do it later, don’t start Monday, don’t blame the new year on the delay of your success. I am the pot and I am black but if the unwilling procrastinating kettle had any regrets, I’d imagine it be something like “I should’ve taken the time to…”
Count your minutes like you count your dollars, value them, save them for someone or something important, spend them wisely, spoil people with your time because the only difference between dollars and time is that you can get your dollar back. I tell you that my time is valuable, precious, I tell you that I can’t spend valuable time on things and people that don’t understand how magnificent they must be to have my time. I tell you all of this, now tell me… What will it take for you to cherish time, willing procrastinator?
